CORPUS CHRISTI — Corpus Christi police are investigating the death of a 39-year-old Tennessee woman who was hit by a truck on Interstate-37 early Sunday.
Deanna Dunavant Bullington, of Memphis, was walking along I-37 and Callicoatte Road about 2:45 a.m. after the vehicle she was a passenger in ran out of gas, according to police.
A 31-year-old man in a truck struck the woman and drove on until he was stopped by a witness to the accident. He returned to the scene and told police he did not realize he had hit the woman, who was wearing black clothing and walking in an area of the freeway that was dark, police said. The driver was cited for an unsafe lane change and traffic investigators are continuing their investigation.
The driver was required to submit to a mandatory blood draw, which is standard in fatality accidents, police said. The results generally take about two weeks to get back, police said.
